Penn State University Libraries
The University Libraries, www.libraries.psu.edu, constitute a major resource for students, faculty, staff, and researchers in all fields of study, as well as residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Libraries contain more than 4.9 million volumes, 5 million microforms, and 68,000 serial subscriptions.
At University Park, the Libraries include nine subject libraries in Pattee Library and Paterno Library and five additional libraries at branch locations, including the Architecture and Landscape Architecture, the Fletcher L. Byrom Earth and Mineral Sciences, Engineering, Pollock Laptop, and Physical and Mathematical Sciences libraries.
There are twenty-three campus and college libraries at Penn State's other campuses throughout the Commonwealth, including Penn State Abington, Penn State Altoona, Penn State Berks-Lehigh Valley College, Penn State Erie-The Behrend College, the Capital College, Penn State Great Valley, twelve campuses of the Commonwealth College, Penn State Mont Alto, the Dickinson School of Law, and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the Penn State College of Medicine.
Access to holdings is obtained through The CAT (our online catalog), part of the Library Information Access System (LIAS), available on the Web at www.libraries.psu.edu. LIAS is a dynamic, integrated information system that provides electronic access to a great variety of materials in many subject areas, including course reserves. A growing collection of over 419 databases, including 10,325 journals with full-text articles, is available in "Articles and More," accessed from the Libraries home page. MultiSearch, a new online feature, performs integrated searches of all Libraries' databases.
The George T. Harrell Library serves the faculty, students, and staff of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the Penn State College of Medicine, and users from the Central Pennsylvania community. Library collections and services support the informational needs of PSHMC users engaged in patient care, research, and education, including interlibrary loan, search services, and instruction. Harrell Library's holdings may be accessed via The CAT. The Library houses over 113,000 volumes and subscribes to more than 6,000 print and electronic journals. Patients and users from the community are welcome to visit the Library to use the collection.
