Scholarship Descriptions

Martha Conner Memorial Award

This scholarship was established to help a student complete the undergraduate program at Penn State. It is available to qualified undergraduate students who plan to go to graduate library school and who need funds to meet necessary college expenses while at Penn State. It was established in 1964 by Grace C. Whitmore in memory of her sister, Martha Conner, who was a member of the University Libraries staff. More Information.

Adma Hammam Shibley Memorial Scholarship in Library Science

This scholarship recognizes and provides financial assistance to undergraduate students planning careers in the field of library science. First consideration is given to undergraduates in the University identified as planning careers in and having a commitment to the field of library science; second consideration is given to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of the Liberal Arts. This scholarship was established in 1981 by Raymond N. Shibley, Penn State Class of 1947, in memory of his family and in honor of his mother, Adma Hammam Shibley, a member of the Pattee Library staff from 1945 to 1949. More Information.

Ava Faltz-Miller Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students who have demonstrated interest in library or information science. Consideration for this scholarship is given to all full-time junior students who are currently enrolled at Penn State, and who have demonstrated interest in library studies, information services, and/or librarianship. The family of Ava Faltz-Miller established this scholarship in her memory in 1992. More Information.

How to Apply

Interested students should submit a letter of application to the Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications, The Pennsylvania State University, 510 Paterno Library, University Park, PA 16802, no later than the last day of classes in spring semester. The letter should include the names of three references who are familiar with the applicant's academic or work experience. When they submit the application letter, students should ask their references to send letters of recommendation to the Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications.
