Periodical Indexes for Art and Art History

Periodical indexes provide descriptions of articles and reviews in journals, magazines, and sometimes other types of publications. Some include abstracts -- brief summaries of the contents of the article. When you see something interesting in a periodical index, use the "Get It" button to find it in electronic or paper form.

Most frequently used:

Art Abstracts 1984-present. All eras and cultures.

Art Index Retrospective 1929-1984. Earlier portion of the above.

ARTbibliographies Modern 1974-present. Late 19th century to now.

Bibliography of the History of Art 1973-present. European and American from late antiquity to now.
