The University Libraries’ electronic course reserve service for audio employs streaming technology to provide Penn State students and instructors access to audio being studied in courses at Penn State University. The service is available to any instructor at any Penn State location. The service is hosted by the Music and Media Center at University Park campus.

To use the audio e-reserves service for your course, contact us by email at audioreserves@psulias.psu.edu. Please include in your message the course name, course number, and the semester you will be teaching (or, if the current semester, the timeframe in which the music is needed).

Sources of Audio

The music for this service is sourced from the Classical Music Library, Naxos Music Library, Smithsonian Global Sound, and the University Libraries’ collection of sound recordings. The techniques employed in providing this service are intended to comply with the fair use provisions of copyright law.

Accessing the Audio Files

Access is provided through The CAT, the library's online catalog. By clicking on the Course Reserves link in the left frame of this page, or the Course Reserves button in The CAT, you can view a list of materials on reserve for your course. One entry in that list is "Audio files on electronic reserve." Click on the "Audio files" link to access the web page with links to the audio files for your course.

Software You Need to Listen

RealPlayer required: download free RealPlayer software for Macintosh or for Windows.

Details about software requirements for listening to Smithsonian Global Sound, Classical Music Library, and Naxos Music Library are available at Music Audio Resources.
