This guide is for students taking the courses for the Peru trip at the end of Fall semester 2006.

1. Search by “LC Subj Heading” (choose this option from drop down box next to search box)

1. Click the “Launch” button in lower right corner of browser to begin your search.

2. Click on “Advanced Search” (top of page)

3. Enter a “Subject Search” for PERU.
(choose the Subject option from the drop down menu at the search screen)

4. When you see your results, click on an image’s Title to see information about the painting or image.

5. Double click on the image to view it at a larger size. Click with your mouse on the image to zoom in, and use arrow keys to move around the image.

: Double click the image as described above to see a larger image in the “image viewer”. At the bottom of that new window there will be an icon to click for printing:

NOTE: Computer screen size may need to be adjusted to 1152 X 864 (instead of 1024 X 768) in order to see all options in the image viewer window (such as the print option at the bottom).

(To adjust screen/display size, go to Control Panel: Display, then Settings Tab)


CAMIO:
Images, text and multimedia represent a broad range of works of art from the collections of prominent museums, highlighting the creative output of cultures around the world, from prehistoric to contemporary times, and covering the complete range of expressive forms.

1. A keyword search for “Peru” retrieves lots of images of sculptures, pottery and other artifacts found in museums.

2. Click on an image to see it in more detail with other text information about the image.

Notes:
Use the email option (found at the top of the enlarged image). The database will send you a .jpg file which you can then save, open and print.

 


POLITICAL SCIENCE:

CIAO:
Comprehensive source for research in international affairs

1. Select: Maps/Country Data
2. Then choose Peru and another country to compare vital statistics

Also, you can search journal articles, policy briefs, books and working papers.

POLICYFILE:
Gathers and indexes abstracts that address public policy and international issues. PolicyFile covers all public policy issues with abstracts available on everything from trade with Asia to health care reform, from telecommunications regulation to the European Union, from terrorism to intelligence reform, from Bosnia to Superfund


UNSTATS:
Use this database for statistics and comparisons for Peru and/or other counries.

Select “Country Profiles” from the left side menu.

ETHNIC NEWSWATCH:
Magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press.
This is a good place to find news stories from a different source than the mainstream American media. Search for current news stories on your country or ethnicity of interest.

A worldwide index of references to journal articles, dissertations, books, and parts of books pertaining to modern literatures, folklore, film, drama, languages, and linguistics

Literature Online
1. Select “Author” search from left side menu.
2. Type in “Peruvian” as nationality (or choose any other nationality, if needed)
3. Click search (19 results of poets from Peru)

NOTE: If you have a specific author in mind, such as Neruda, you can simply input their names into the field labeled "Author".

One can also do a criticism/reference search by using keywords or subject:
Click on "Criticism and Reference" from left side menu and enter keywords.
