This program documents the exhibition and allows Malevich to reveal
his own story, providing viewers with analyses and commentary on
his work that is vivid, precise and personal.

Coming of age ethnographic
profiles from a global perspective. (2005)
A global collage of adolescence represented by young people from
6 different countries - China, Malaysia, Russia, Uganda, Dominican
Republic, and Canada's Baffin Island - and how their coming of
age is interpreted by their culture.
The face of Russia. (1998)
Explores the art and culture of Russia in a journey across history,
encompassing Russia's architecture, paintings, music, literature
and cinema. Part 1 examines icon painting, the first Russian art
form, and reveals the spiritual ideas that have animated Russia
for 1000 years, and witnesses recent restorations of churches and
monasteries from Kiev to the Kremlin. Part 2 examines Russian architecture
from Eastern-inspired onion domes to Western-type palaces. Also
looks at the work of Gogol who revealed the human suffering behind
Russia's facade. His Dead Souls inspired 19th-century radicals
and Soviet dissidents, and continues to influence Russian artists
today. Part 3 explores Russian music and cinema and looks at how
new media forms are shaping Russia today. Musorgsky's opera Boris
Godunov dramatized the conflict between power and the people. Sergei
Eisentsein retold history with silent films of such power that
they became more real than actual events.
Free our planet of
nuclear weapons for our town, ocean and motherland. (1995)
Host Elicia Funatsu travels to the United States, Japan, the former
Soviet Union and the Marshall Islands interviewing people whose lives
have been affected by nuclear warfare and nuclear weapons testing.
Background information about government knowledge of health hazards
and Cold War ideology is provided by historian Gar Alperovitz and
others.
Homage to Chagall. (1987)
Portrait of Russian painter Marc Chagall, with photographs of over
Matisse centennial
at the Grand Palais. (1998)
A timeless classic, this is the only film record of the historic
Matisse exhibition in Paris in 1970. It covers practically all
of his oeuvre, including important, rarely seen work on loan from
Russian collections at the Pushkin Museum and the Hermitage. The
film also features live footage of Matisse at work on his design
for the Chapel of Venice. Pierre Schneider, noted Matisse scholar
and author of "Matisse", both curated the exhibition
and narrated this film.

Presents a live performance of Irish dance and music, with American,
Spanish, and Russian performers as well.

Catherine the Great. (2000)
Trapped in a loveless political marriage to the dissolute nephew

and plots her path to the throne. Skillfully manipulating the Russian
triumvirate of church, army and aristocracy, she adroitly rides
the shifting currents of social change and unrest to become one
of Russia's most unforgettable and beloved rulers, Catherine the

How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb. (2001)
A satire in which the U.S. president and his military advisors struggle
ineptly to avert a holocaust after a psychotic Air Force general
launches a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union because he fears that
the Russians are poisoning the water supply in the United States.
Dr. Strangelove, or,
How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb. (1987)
A satire in which the President and his military advisers struggle
ineptly to avert a holocaust after a psychotic Air Force general
launches a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union because he fears the
Russians are poisoning the water supply in the United States.
The hunt for Red October. (2003)
A new technologically superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October,
is heading the the United States coast under the command of Captian
Ramius. The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack.
A lone CIA analyst has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning
to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it.
At the same time, the entire Russian naval and air commands are
trying to find Ramius too.
Mother. (1982)
Set in Russia at the time of the abortive 1905 revolution. Shows
a mother's conversion to communism through her experience with
the Tsarist regime.
Stalingrad. (1996)
This film features the bloodiest battle in the history of warfare
- the legendary battle of Stalingrad.
