Companies operating in this industry encompass a wide array of team sports, individual sports, motor sports, horse racing and dog racing, with the common feature that the sporting events are commercial activities. Principal revenue streams include ticket sales; sales of broadcast rights on networks, cable and internet; corporate endorsements and sponsorships; and merchandise sales.
Combined, the "Big 4" leagues in America , the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Hockey League (NHL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) leagues bring in about $16.4 billion in annual revenue.
