    Lists women elected and appointed to Congress, with party affiliations, states represented, dates served, Committee assignments, and chairmanships held, 1917-2009. Includes data on women's initial entrance to Senate; women who have served in both houses; held leadership positions; and women of Black, Asian American, and Hispanic heritage in Congress. NOTE: available to researchers with a Penn State Access Account.

  • Equality in Parliament: A Survey of Men and Women in Parliaments, Inter-Parliamentary Union [IPU], 2008
    Results of a survey conducted by the IPU between 2006 and 2008. It collates insights from both men and women parliamentarians into the factors that shape decision making. It provides concrete examples of how parliamentarians are working to attain gender equality in politics at the national level, and how parliaments can become more gender-sensitized. Survey respondents also identify several structural changes that could help to promote women's access to and full participation in Parliament.

    Provides access to a wide range of news, business, legal, and reference information. Covers many news sources for 20 years. Court cases and statutes from all federal and state jurisdictions are included. Most resources can be searched in full text.

    Complete full-text content of many local newspapers as well as a selection of key national newspapers. This includes a wide range of local and regional newspapers, including the Centre Daily Times. Use this database to locate newspaper articles related to community events, schools, politics, government policies, cultural activities, local companies, state industries, and people in the community. Paid advertisements are excluded.

  • Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues — a web site from Women's Policy, Inc. that pulls together information and links from the Women's Caucus

  • Almanac of American PoliticsThe Almanac includes profiles of every member of Congress and governor as well as in-depth and up-to-date narrative profiles of all 50 states and 435 House districts

  • Congressional [ProQuest] — ProQuest Congressional provides access to the best web resources for congressional and legislative information. This includes services available to researchers with a Penn State Access Account, such as Congressional publications (1789 to the present) as well as other free services that provide similar or related information such as THOMAS (1993 to the present) and GPO Access (1993 to the present)

  • CQ Electronic Library — a reference source for research in American government, politics, history, public policy, and current affairs. The suite includes the online version of CQ Weekly, CQ Researcher, CQ Congress Collection, and CQ Voting and Elections Collection.

  • Associations Unlimited
    Information about, and locations for, nearly 144,000 nonprofit membership organizations worldwide: International and U.S. National, Regional, State, and Local. It covers everything from local Chambers of Commerce to the American Medical Association, and beyond.

  • National Council of Women's Organizations (NCWO)
    NCWO is a 501(c)3 nonpartisan, nonprofit coalition that represents over 11 million women across the United States. More than 200 member organizations collaborate through substantive policy work and grass-roots activism to address issues of concern to women, including family and work, economic equity, education, affirmative action, older women, corporate accountability, women and technology, reproductive freedom, women's health, younger women, and global progress for women's equality.

  • CRS (Congressional Research Service) Reports [Penn State Libraries]
    The Congressional Research Service (CRS), a branch of the Library of Congress, produces excellent reports on a wide of topics including health care policy. The reports are designed for policymakers who are working on legislation or study public policy issues.

  • PolicyFile [Penn State Libraries]
    Reports from public policy think tanks, university research programs, research organizations, and publishers. Many of these organizations are the major "players" in health policy debates.
