The

Some quick search tips and strategies are included to help
you begin your research. If you need assistance with these

Online access to the ninth edition of the McGraw Hill Encyclopedia of Science
& Technology. Includes: New trends and developments in science and technology ("Research Updates")
from the McGraw-Hill Yearbooks of Science & Technology and access to 110,000+ definitions from The McGraw-Hill Dictionary of
Scientific & Technical Terms.
Search Tip:
Use quotes to surround a search phrase then select your topic of interest from the generated list.

CQ
Researcher Online Weekly "magazine" that
explores in-depth a single "hot issue" currently
being discussed in the news. Topics include social issues,
politics, economics, the environment, education, science,
and more. Each issue includes an essay outlining the issue,
a pro-con feature, a chronology, and a bibliography.
Search
Tip: Search for "Climate
Change" by
Marcia Clemmitt (1/27/2006) or "The New Environmentalism"
by Tom Price (12/1/2006). Search for these reports by title, including
quotes. Once you have opened
them, look at the issue tracker
(on the
right
hand
side of the screen) for related reports. Be sure to check the date
of the report for currency.

Books
and Videos at Penn State:

Tip: Select Advanced Search (on right hand

You can limit your search to the Brandywine Campus by

List. For
each database listed below, search tips are provided to help
you get started.
America's
News Magazines provides full-text
articles from leading magazines that provide coverage
and analysis of current events in a range of categories including:
news, business, entertainment, lifestyle, science and technology,
and sports. One easy-to-search interface is used for all
titles. Paid advertisements are excluded.
Search Tip:
Use this database to search for articles in magazines such as Foreign
Affairs, Newsweek, Slate (a daily magazine
on the Web), Time, U.S.
News & World Report, and Popular Science, by clicking
in the corresponding box. Use
the Advanced Search and select Index terms from the drop down menu
for more powerful searches. (FYI: Time magazine published a double
issue on global warming on 4/9/2007. You can read all of the articles
in it by selecting Time, selecting Advanced Search and then entering
4/9/2007 in the custom date search box. Read "The Truth about Denial" in Newsweek.)

Sciences Pollution Management provides
abstracts and references to the literature covering all areas of

the present.

Full Text Newspapers Complete
full-text content of many Knight-Ridder and other newspapers.
This includes a wide range of local and regional newspapers,
including the Centre Daily Times. Use this database to
locate newspaper articles related to community events,
schools, politics, government policies, cultural activities,
local companies, state industries, and people in the
community.
Search Tip: Search all of the United States
or a specific region. To search a region, click on the map provided.
To search a specific newspapers within this region, select the corresponding
boxes. For example, click on PA, then select the Philadelphia
Inquirer and
Philadelphia Daily News for local news coverage. Select in index terms OR in lead/first paragraph from the drop down menu and use quotes for best results.
