Sir William Blake Richmond was a painter, designer, and sculptor. The son of artist George Richmond, he studied art at the Royal Academy. He became a prolific portrait artist, painting Browning, Darwin, Gladstone, and the Liddell sisters, and was also proficient in landscape and historical painting. His designs tended to be traditional, based on classical themes, and his popularity declined in the 20th century as new styles emerged.
Scope and Content:
Richmond writes to Petrie, undated, probably from early 20th century, asking him to help his friends the Lehmanns understand something about the treasures he enjoyed today.
