Interlibrary Loan

What is Interlibrary Loan and who may use it?

Interlibrary Loan is a service through which library materials not available at the DuBois Campus Library may be requested and obtained from other locations. This service is available to current Penn State faculty, staff, and students. Non-Penn State patrons will be referred to their local library for Interlibrary Loan assistance.

All types of materials may be available through Interlibrary Loan: books, government documents, video & audio tapes, microfilm/microfiche items, and photocopies of magazine and journal articles. These materials are obtained free of charge from other Penn State locations. Faculty, staff, and students at Penn State University also have the ability to request materials from other universities. Please be aware that requesting items from other institutions can take anywhere from two weeks to a month and there are no guarantees as to the availability of materials.

How will I know when my materials have arrived at the library?

You will be notified by email when Interlibrary Loan materials arrive.

Where should I pick it up?

Upon notification, materials may be picked up at the Circulation desk. You are responsible for picking up your materials.

To Request a Book through Interlibrary Loan

If you would like to order a book from another Penn State location, go to the CAT, search "ALL" libraries and use the "I Want It" button. If a book is not available from a Penn State Library, check E-ZBorrow (PALCI), a consortium of academic libraries in Pennsylvania, New jersey and West Virginia. If it is not available from the CAT or E-ZBorrow, you will need to request the book through the Illiad interlibrary loan service. To access Illiad, go to https://ill.libraries.psu.edu/, complete a one time registration and submit the "Request a Loan" online form. You must be a Penn State student, staff or faculty member to use Illiad.

To Request a Journal Article through Interlibrary Loan

If you would like to request an article that is not full text in one of the University Libraries databases, ILLIAD (https://ill.libraries.psu.edu/) is the interlibrary loan service you will need to use. To complete the "Request a Photocopy" online form, it is reommended that you have a complete citation for your article and a call number for the journal or magazine from the CAT (if possible). You must be a Penn State student, staff or faculty member to use Illiad.

Note: Illiad requests must be completed in their entirety or the requests will be delayed or not processed.

Copyright Notice:

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Reminders:

Special Notices:

*Penn State Libraries will not lend entire issues of journals or magazines*

*Please allow yourself sufficient turnaround time when using our Interlibrary Loan service! A good guideline is to allow 10 days for materials to arrive on Campus. Planning ahead will insure maximum working time for your course research projects.*
