Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology and Rehabilitation Services at Penn State

Counselor Education includes the study of supervision/administration of human services, student affairs administration, and teaching in counselor education.  Areas of emphasis are chemical dependency, college student personnel, elementary school counseling, or secondary school counseling.

Counseling Psychology prepares counseling psychologists for professional roles as academicians, researchers, or practitioners.

Rehabilitation Counseling includes the study of issues concerned with the consequences of disability, disease, or illness, with emphasis on assets versus a deficiency orientation.  Study includes physical disabilities, emotional disabilities, mental retardation, substance abuse, and/or those with criminal records.

ERIC -- Educational Resources Information Center

What Works Clearinghouse
Created in 2002, the goal of the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) is to identify findings of scientific evidence. The WWC collects, screens, and identifies studies of the effectiveness of educational interventions (programs, products, practices, and policies); reviews studies that have the strongest design; and reports on the strengths and weaknesses of those studies against the WWC Evidence Standards. The International Encyclopedia of Social and Behavioral Sciences is the online equivalent of the 24 volume encyclopedia published in 2002. Mental Measurements Yearbook, produced by the Buros Institute, contains full text information about and reviews of all English-language standardized tests covering educational skills, personality, vocational aptitude, psychology, and related areas as included in the printed Mental Measurements Yearbooks. Professional Development Collection

PubMed (Medline)
MEDLINE (which stands for MEDlars onLINE) is the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) premier bibliographic database. It includes the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences. MEDLINE has 9 million citations and author abstracts from current biomedical journals published in the U.S. and 70 foreign countries. MEDLINE is available to Penn State users through Web access. Social Science Citation Index
Social Science Citation Index is a multidisciplinary index to the journal literature of the social sciences. It covers 1400 social science journals. The index can be used to look up either a specific author or a particular publication to see how many articles in the database cited that author or publication. The index can also be used to find related articles (articles that have at least one reference in common).
