Early
Childhood Education
Early Childhood Education is an option area in the Department of Curriculum
and Instruction. There are two master's programs: Master of Science (M.S.)
and Master of Education (M.Ed). The Master of Science program focuses
on research while the Master of Education program is aimed at providing
increased professional competence in education. Graduates from the master's
programs have held a variety of positions ranging from teachers and administrators
in public schools to positions at the state level. There are also two
doctoral level programs offered: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Doctor
of Education (D.Ed.). The Doctor of Philosophy is conferred to acknowledge
high achievement and scholarship in the field of education. The Doctor
of Education provides greater preparedness for working in the education
profession. Graduates from the doctoral programs have gone on to work
as university professors and as consultants and directors for early childhood
and other family-related agencies at the state and federal level.
