Location:
The
Deike Building is located near the corner of Pollock
Road and Burrowes Road. The library is in Rm. 105 Deike, on
the first floor. However, the entrances to the building are all
on the ground floor, so the visitor must go upstairs to reach us.
For
wheelchair access, use the ramp with automatic doors at the south
entrance. Take the elevator to the first floor. (There is another
automatic door located on the east side of the building, off the
parking lot. From that entrance, the elevators are to the left.)
Metered parking is available one block south on College Avenue.

Maps:
EMSL
has about 20,000 primarily geologic maps and atlases. Please note
that topographic maps are available at the Maps
Library.
Videos
and DVDs:
Videos
relating to the earth & mineral sciences are primarily housed
in the Media and Technology
Support Services Library, which is not open to the public. Videos
and other audiovisual materials can be identified using the
CAT or Medianet,
the catalog & scheduling database of the Media and Technology
Support Services Library.
Wants
& Donations:
Over
the years, the library has lost some of its collection through damage,
theft or other occurrences. Despite our efforts to replace these
materials, we are not always successful. If you are willing to donate
a personal copy of any of the items on our wants list,
it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact us at ems@psulias.psu.edu.
Gifts of other materials are generally welcome although we suggest
you contact the librarians before sending materials to us. More
information about giving
to the Libraries is available from the librarians or the Libraries
Development Office.

Facility
The
Mineral Industries Library was created in 1930 from a collection
of approximately 1000 books from Dean Edward Steidle's office to
which the Pennsylvania State College Library added relevant materials
from their collection. In 1966 the library was moved from the Mineral
Industries Building (now Steidle Building) to Deike Building and
renamed the Earth and Mineral Sciences Library. In 2001, the library
received an endowment from Mr. George Middlemas and was named the
Fletcher L. Byrom Earth and Mineral Sciences
Library.
