- Gems & Precious Stones of North America, Location: QE 392.K95. Has chapters on Diamonds, Turquiose, Topaz and Tourmaline, the Garnet group, Beryl, Corundum, Sappphire, Quartz, Feldspars and many others.
- Mineral facts and problems Location: 2 copies. One in general coll. and one in Reference section TN23.U4 no.675
- Minerals Information from the U.S. Geological Survey Online: http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/
- Rock and Gem, check our current journals shelves for the latest issues, for older issues look for this call number: QE420 .R6.
- Rocks and Minerals, you can search this journal for articles online via Proquest Direct. Type in "Rocks and Minerals"
in the box that says "Publication title" and run your search on the name of the gem. Try using the * on the end of the gem name to catch word variants, such as: Rub* to get rubies and ruby.
- Simon & Schuster's Guide to Gems and Precious Stones, Location: QE392.C5713. This book has a section on organic gems like Pearls and Coral and at least half a page on most other kinds of gems. It lists information such as appearance, distinctive features, occurrence, value, simulants and synthetics.

typing in the name of the gem. You can also do an advanced search and limit your results to only items in the Earth & Mineral Sciences Library by selecting this library from the drop-down menu.
If you cannot find an entire book devoted to your gem, do not be concerned. You can find information on your gem by using some of the general resources listed at the top of this page. Begin by browsing in some of the indexes at the back of the books. If you do not see your gem, try browsing in Rock and Gem magazine. Please ask at the E&MS information desk if you need help finding this publication.
