Subject Databases

LIAS provides a number of indexes and abstracts to journal articles, conference papers and technical reports. These databases are available to registered Penn State students, faculty and staff only. These databases and dozens of additional titles are available on the E-Resources List.  Descriptions of the databases may be found by highlighting the needed database and clicking on the Describe button.

  • COMPENDEX - The Internet version of Computerized Engineering Index and the print Engineering Index. COMPENDEX WEB covers the years 1894 to the present, is updated monthly and supports author, keyword and subject heading searches. Check The CAT to see what titles Penn State owns. Items not owned may be requested through Interlibrary Loan
  • NTIS - Abstracts from the National Technical Information Service, NTIS provides coverage to technical reports from the United States and a number of other countries. Author, subject and report number searching is available. The Engineering library owns over 500,000 of the reports covered in this databases on microfiche. Items not owned by the library may be purchased at the discretion of the librarian. Technical reports holdings are not listed in The CAT, check the collection to see if the report is owned.

Specialty Databases

  • TMI Databases - The cleanup and decontamination of the Three Mile Island Reactor II resulted in a number of technical reports and videotapes. These are indexed, and in some cases abstracted, in the TMI Videotape and the TMI Reports Databases. Reports are generally available in engineering collections and through NTIS. Videotapes are available through Penn State. For more information see the TMI Web Page.
