Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary loans are available to all Penn State students, faculty, staff and researchers. This service provides materials that the Penn State University Libraries does not own.

In conformance with state, regional or national interlibrary loan codes, material may be requested from another library with the understanding that the lending library will decide in each case whether it will provide a particular item. It generally takes two to three weeks for requested materials to arrive. Sometimes libraries impose restrictions on borrowed materials such as 1) using materials only in the library and 2) forbidding photocopying. In certain cases the borrower will be required to pay charges. Staff will advise before proceeding with such requests.

Penn State patrons may now submit requests directly through the Web using the Interlibrary Loan Request Forms. Select book or journal request and fill in the appropriate information.

For more information about ILL go to ILL Web Page.

Please note: Certain materials in engineering are more difficult to borrow through interlibrary loan. In these situations every attempt will be made to fill these requests by other methods. This includes internal technical reports from industry and some standards. Technical reports available through NTIS (National Technical Information Services) that are not owned by the library can be ordered through the Engineering Library. Ask at either the Reference or Circulation Desks for the order form.
