Exhibit Hall

Exhibit Hall

On the first floor of Paterno Library, fine examples of library materials are displayed periodically in the Special Collections Exhibit Hall, the result of a gift by the Frank and Mary J. Smeal Foundation. Displays have been as diverse as Pennsylvania Amusement Park memorabilia, original Pennsylvania Steel Heritage letters and documents, items relating to the Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1851, the Legends of King Arthur, the letters and papers of Jamaican poet Vivian Virtue, and an exhibit celebrating Pennsylvania Baseball. The desk of Evan Pugh, the University's first president, a map of Centre County from 1861, and several pieces of furniture given to the University by the Lingnan University of China in 1928 are also on permanent display. In addition, the study of best-selling author and noted playwright John O'Hara is permanently on view in this area.
