Maps Library

The Maps Library

The Donald W. Hamer room, on the ground floor of Paterno Library, holds the Maps Library. This is one of Penn State University Libraries' most notable collections. It is reputed to be one of the ten largest maps collections in the nation, with nearly 400,000 maps. The collection is comprised of electronic as well as traditional paper resources, including maps, atlases, indexes, and journals. The collection focuses mainly on twentieth century resources, and also contains facsimiles of important early maps and atlases. Both color and black and white photocopiers are available here. Digital reproduction is available in conjunction with the Libraries' Preservation department. The ground level elevator lobby has regular cartographic and geographic displays from the collection, which often highlight current events.
