Bust of Professor Fred Lewis Pattee

Fred Lewis Pattee, for whom Pattee Library is named, was born March 22nd, 1863. He was a teacher, lecturer, novelist, and essayist. His career at Pennsylvania State College (as the University was called at that time) began in 1894, when he was recruited by then-president of the college, George Atherton. Pattee's special interest was the field of American literature. He also authored Penn State's Original Alma Mater.

This bust of Pattee was created by Sybil Barsky Grucci, and is located on the first floor of central Pattee, just outside the doors to Foster Auditorium.
