Find Newspapers in the Library
Not all newspapers are online. In particular older issues are often available only in print, or more typically on microformat (microfilm, microfiche). What are Microforms?
To find out if the newspaper you want is owned by the Libraries search The CAT.
Find Newspapers by Title
If you know the newspaper name, perform a Browse Title search. Be aware that the city names may not be part of the title. The Cleveland Plain Dealer is just the Plain Dealer, the Memphis Commercial Appeal is the Commercial Appeal . Many newspapers are not fully described in The CAT. ASK if you are not finding what you need.
Find Newspapers by Geographic Location
Enter the city and limit your search to "Newspapers" using the Advanced Search in The CAT. Not every newspaper record in The CAT includes this information. Microfinder provides another way to browse a list of newspapers by time period or location available in the News and Microforms Library (University Park). Some newspapers are not fully described in The CAT and cannot be searched by place. ASK if you are not finding what you need.
Find Newspapers by Time Period
Limit your search to "Newspapers" using the Advanced Search in The CAT and enter a range of dates. Important: Not every newspaper record in The CAT includes this information. This search only retrieves newspapers if they began in the dates you use (e.g. the search below only finds newspapers that started publication between 1850-1900). Microfinder provides another way to browse a list of newspapers by time period or location available in the News and Microforms Library (University Park). Many newspapers are not fully described in The CAT and cannot be searched by date. ASK if you are not finding what you need.
