The emergence of electronic publishing as a viable alternative to traditional print-based publishing, the digital archiving of theses and dissertations, the economic pressures on libraries and university presses, and the adaptation of copyright laws to digital technologies are critical issues that are affecting how scholarly work is produced, disseminated, stored, and used. This Web site provides information on changes in scholarly communication and is addressed specifically to students at Penn State both in their roles as students and as researchers. It includes links providing information on practical needs (such as submission of dissertations) as well as those that address broad concerns of publishers, libraries, and research institutions (such as the establishment of standards for electronic publishing).
