Six Collections Identified for Google Digitization Project

University Park, PA—The Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), of which Penn State is a member, announced its participation in the Google Digitization Project yesterday. This collaboration could result in the digital scanning of up to ten million volumes from across the holdings of the twelve-member CIC, as part of the Google Book Search project.

At a press conference, Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications Nancy Eaton said Penn State would contribute approximately 500,000 volumes to the project. Collections of distinction that are being considered for the project are food science, mining, materials science, meteorology, history of art education, and German Americana.
