Waring film clip to air at UNESCO Conference

University Park, PA—A clip from the recently restored and digitized 1927 film short, Waring's Pennsylvanians (No. 428) will feature in a public outreach trailer to be screened at the UNESCO General Conference in Paris on Oct. 27, to celebrate World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. The trailer will also include film and broadcast material from member archives in Singapore, Peru, New York, Scotland, Switzerland, and Sudan. It will be co-produced by the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA), of which the Waring Collection is a member, and created by the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations. UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, promotes cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, and communication among its 192 member states and six associate members. The trailer will be screened throughout the conference, and will be given to each national delegate in attendance.

Waring's Pennsylvanians (No. 428) is part of the Fred Waring's America collection, which contains historical memorabilia, a music library, thousands of recordings of radio and television broadcasts, concert recordings and music workshop sessions, photographs, and scrapbooks reflecting Waring's nearly seventy-year career as a choral conductor and showman.

The collection is part of the Special Collections Library of the University Libraries, and is housed in the Pattee Library at Penn State. The collection is accessible during regular business hours. For more information see: www.libraries.psu.edu/waring/ or call Eileen Akin, coordinator of the collection, at 814-863-2911. Research inquiries are encouraged, and many materials are available for use by music educators, researchers, and community groups.
