Expert to talk on youth violence prevention

University Park, PA—Youth violence prevention is the focus of a presentation by psychology professor and expert on juvenile aggression and violence, Dr. Nancy Guerra of the University of California, Riverside. Dr. Guerra's presentation, Youth Violence Prevention for ImNancy Guerramigrant Latino Families: A Case Study in Santa Ana, California, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library.

Dr. Guerra, who is the director of the Southern California Academic Center of Excellence on Youth Violence Prevention, has investigated the causes of aggression and violence among youths, and the development and evaluation of violence prevention programs for many years. Since 1990, she has received over $20 million in federal grants from several institutes, including the National Institute of Health, the National Institute of Child Development and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most recently, she served as co-editor of Preventing Youth Violence in a Multicultural Society and Treating the Juvenile Offender. She has been a member of the President's Commission on Juvenile Justice, the Risk Prevention Research Committee of the National Institute of Health and the Office of Juvenile Justice special work group on serious and violent juvenile offenders. She was recently appointed to the Scientific Advisory Group of the Injury Prevention and Risk Division of the CDC. She has also worked as a consultant on several international health projects funded by the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank in Colombia, Jamaica, Trinidad and Chile.
