Best Children's Books for Family Literacy from 2006

University Park, PA—Among the many children’s books published last year, thirteen were chosen by the Pennsylvania Center for the Book to form A Baker’s Dozen: The Best Children’s Books for Family Literacy from 2006.

Winners include: About Marsupials: A Guide for Children, by Cathryn Sill, illustrated by Jofamily literacy imagehn Sill (Peachtree Publishers); Animal Babies in Seas (Animal Babies in Deserts) (Kingfisher Books); Black? White! Day? Night! A Book of Opposites, by Laura Vaccaro Seeger (Roaring Brook Press); Clip-Clop!, by Nicola Smee (Boxer Books); Heave Ho!, by Heinz Janisch and Carola Holland (North-South Books); How To Be, by Lisa Brown (HarperCollins Publishers); "I’m not cute!", by Jonathan Allen (Hyperion Books for Children); The Last Laugh, by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey (Dial Books for Young Readers); Not a Box, by Antoinette Portis (HarperCollins Publishers); Snow Sounds: An Onomatopoeic Story, by David A. Johnson (Houghton Mifflin Company); Tools, by Taro Miura (Chronicle Books); What a Treasure!,  by Jane Hillenbrand and Will Hillenbrand (Holiday House); and What Do Wheels Do All Day?, by April Jones Prince, illustrated by Giles Laroche (Houghton Mifflin Company).
