Access to Libraries Altered by Curtin Road Construction

University Park, PA—Beginning Monday, May 21, at 6:00 a.m., until mid August, Curtin Road will close between Burrowes Road and Allen Street. During this period, pedestrian traffic and entry to some surrounding buildings will be rerouted and directed via changing on-site signage. Fischer Plaza will be closed all summer for construction and the east entrance to Kern Building and the south entrance to Chambers will be closed, except for emergency egress.

There will be pedestrian access from Nittany Parking Deck to Pattee and Paterno Libraries through temporary walkways. Egress from buildings to the outside will be maintained. Those parking in handicapped-designated spaces near Paterno Library will be able to do so throughout construction, via access from Allen Street.

The road closure is due to the construction of the new Transit Center in front of Pattee Library. The center will create bus pull offs for three buses on either side of Curtin Road and completely renovate the Fisher Plaza area. The construction will eliminate congestion and greatly improve safety for bus riders and vehicular traffic.

The Pattee Library book drop for the return of books has been permanently moved to the right of the main entrance of Paterno Library.

CATA Bus routes on Curtin Road will remain changed until mid August. The Blue Loop stop closest to the Libraries is at the intersection of Pollock and Fraser Roads. Additionally there is a stop at the HUB. The Red Link stop is at East Halls on Curtin Road, and the bus will travel along Park Avenue and Atherton Street to west campus and White Course Drive, with a stop at the Earth-Engineering Sciences Building.

A CATA map shows this and a revised schedule at http://www.catabus.com/looplink/schedule/schedulesum07.htm#pdflinks
The road closing will affect CATA Centre Line service for travelers onto campus. See http://www.catabus.com

In addition, Curtin Road at the intersection of Shortlidge Road, will close at Borland Lab (formerly the Creamery), and access to that portion of Curtin Road will be via Allen Road. Plans are in place for one-way bus traffic to Rec Hall along Curtin Road, during the Special Olympics, June 7-10. For University service vehicles, during the Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, July 12-15, Fraser Road will be one-way traffic, north to south, with exit at service drive behind Hammond Building.
