Undergraduates Awarded Libraries Scholarships
University Park, PAPenn State University Libraries and the College of the Liberal Arts have awarded Adma Hammam Shibley Memorial Scholarships to Jennifer Hinman, a senior in Elementary Education, elementary teaching option at Penn State University Park, and Shirley Ann Betush, a senior in Applied Psychology at Penn State New Kensington. Both recipients are graduating in December and will be starting graduate studies in library science in January. This scholarship was established in 1981 by Raymond N. Shibley, Penn State Class of 1947, in memory of his family and in honor of his mother, Adma Hammam Shibley, a member of the Pattee Library staff from 1945 to 1949.
Julie Arvay, a junior in Communications, in the corporate communications option, at Penn State New Kensington, has been awarded the Martha Conner Memorial Award by the Libraries. This award provides financial assistance to undergraduates who plan to attend graduate library school. It was established in 1964 by Grace C. Whitmore in memory of her sister, Martha Conner, who was a member of the University Libraries' staff.
Psychology junior Megan Anne Johnson, from Penn State Greater Allegheny, has been awarded the Ava Faltz Miller Memorial Scholarship for showing demonstrated interest in library science. The family of Ava Faltz-Miller established this scholarship in her memory in 1992.
