Seminar to focus on accessible online course design
University Park, PA"Access to All: Create Accessible Courses and Web Pages," a free event for faculty, instructors, Web developers, instructional designers, students, and others involved in on-line course and Web design, will be held on April 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library.
The interactive seminar will focus on the need to make Web content usable and accessible, highlighting ways to universally design Web sites for all users, including individuals with disabilities. The featured speakers are Christian Vinten-Johansen, an expert on on-line accessibility issues from Penn State's Information Technology Services' (ITS) Teaching and Learning with Technology Department; Richard Fasse, assistant director of online learning at the Rochester Institute for Technology National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT), and manager of the Instructional Design group; Joeann Humbert, director of online learning at RIT; and David Cunningham, staff member at Pittsburgh's Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services. The speakers will address a wide range of topics, including new multimedia products and technologies, issues related to accessibility, policies and best practices to ensure access, and high- and low-tech solutions.
This event is sponsored by Penn State's Office for Disability Services, ITS, the University Libraries' Library Services for Persons with Disabilities, and RIT. The seminar will also be made available on Adobe Connect, where participants will have the opportunity to interact with presenters and ask questions.
