Best children's books for family literacy for 2008 announced
University Park, PAAmong the many children’s books published last year, thirteen were chosen by the Pennsylvania Center for the Book to form "A Baker’s Dozen: The Best Children’s Books for Family Literacy for 2008."
Winners include: A Closer Look by Mary McCarthy (Greenwillow Books/HarperCollins Publishers); Dog by Matthew Van Fleet, photography by Brian Stanton (Paula Wiseman Book/Simon & Schuster); Every Friday by Dan Yaccarino (Henry Holt and Company); First the Egg by Laura Vaccaro Seeger (Neal Porter Book/Roaring Brook Press); Fish, Swish! Splash, Dash!: Counting Round and Round by Suse MacDonald (Little Simon); Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard (Scholastic Press); I Don’t Like Gloria! by Kaye Umansky, illustrated by Margaret Chamberlain (Candlewick Press); I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry (Dial Books for Young Readers); Leaves by David Ezra Stein (G. P. Putnam’s Sons); Meet the Meerkat by Darrin Lunde, illustrated by Patricia J. Wynne (Charlesbridge Publishing); Penguin by Polly Dunbar (Candlewick Press); Tip Tip Dig Dig by Emma Garcia (Boxer Books Limited); and Yo, Jo! by Rachel Isadora (Harcourt, Inc.).
