Business Library head wins prestigious award

University Park, PA—Schreyer Business Library Head Gary White is the recipient of the 2008 Gale Cengage Learning Award for Excellence in Business Librarianship administered by the Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The award, a citation, and $3,000 donated by Gale Cengage Learning is given to an individual for distinguished activitiesgary white picture in the field of business librarianship.

"I am very honored to receive this award.  I have met numerous professional colleagues through ALA, and being recognized by my peers in this organization is very gratifying.  My position at Penn State has allowed me to engage in many research and service activities, so I am equally grateful to my colleagues in the University Libraries who have supported my activities over the years," says White.

An ALA press release quoted Mark E. Andersen, award committee chair, as saying: “Gary White is a business librarian par excellence. He is a practitioner, educator and leader. He has published extensively in this field and has presented at numerous professional meetings and conferences. In addition to numerous articles, books and book chapters, he is editor of the Journal of Business and Finance Librarianship.”

The award will be presented at RUSA Awards Ceremony on June 30, 2008, during the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, California.

The William and Joan Schreyer Business Library is located on the third floor of Paterno Library. Find out about the resources and services available, and access research guides, research support, handouts, and much more online at http://www.libraries.psu.edu/business/.
