University Park, PA There's a new reason to linger in the Libraries todaythe new Leisure Reading Collection has been unveiled, and features an array of bestsellers, award winners and great works of fiction and non-fiction, for the reading enjoyment of all patrons. The collection, located in Course Reserves, 113 Pattee Library, west, is broad in scope and appeal ("Stealing Lincoln's Body" and "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" are two of the current top ten circulating titles), with the emphasis on reading for pleasure.
"The Leisure Reading collection was set up in direct response to student requests and feedback, and will be a vital part of the Knowledge Commons model of service that the University Libraries are developing," says Information Literacy Librarian Anne Behler, who is also selector for the collection.
To date the collection consists of about 500 titles. Many have come from the Libraries' own Pattee and Paterno stacks, with additional material being acquired through the Baker & Taylor book leasing plan.
"The book lease option allows us to constantly renew the collection’s contents, making sure that we have the latest and greatest titles our patrons want to read, as well as enabling us to order multiple copies of extremely popular titles and send them back once the popularity wanes," adds Behler.
The circulation periods for titles in the collection are the same as for all other library books, although Behler hopes that patrons will return the books promptly after reading, for others to enjoy. Patrons can also place holds on books that are checked out. For more information on the collection, please contact Anne Behler: behler@psu.edu. You may also submit title recommendations via goodreads@psulias.psu.edu. The collection's Web site is: http://www.libraries.psu.edu/lls/leisure_reading/index.html.
