The Power of Youth100 Years of 4-H Exhibit
University Park, PA -- An exhibit to commemorate the centennial of the 4-H agricultural education
program, "The Power of Youth: 100 Years of 4-H" is on display through April 5, 2002, in the Special Collections
Library, 104 Paterno Library.
With more than 6.8 million members participating in more than 110 program areas, 4-H is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States.
Part of the national Cooperative Extension System, its educational program for young people began at the turn of the century, throughout the country,
and in 1902, Penn State's Cooperative Extension incorporated the 4-H program into its youth agricultural education and outreach program.
The exhibition features photographs, brochures, programs, learning guides, membership information, and hands on instruction manuals covering the
100 years of the 4-H program in Pennsylvania. Penn State was and continues to be a significant contributor to the success and organization of
the program in Pennsylvania. The exhibit, which stresses the breadth of agricultural education for young people, explores activities involving the
nationally known 4-H clover emblem that represents the head, heart, hand, and health.
The exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, contact Jackie Esposito,
Penn State University Archivist, at jre@psulias.psu.edu or 814-865-7931.
