Underground Railroad Historian to Speak at Libraries

University Park, PA -- Join author Charles L. Blockson on February 28, 2002, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library, as he discusses his latest book African Americans in Pennsylvania: Above Ground and Underground, An Illustrated Guide.

Author of ten previous works, Blockson is curator of The Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection at Temple University, Pennsylvania. Comprising more than 150,000 books, documents, and photographs, it is one of the nation's largest private collections of black history material as well as a research center for scholars worldwide.

Additionally, Blockson is co-founder of The African American Museum in Philadelphia and a founding member of the Pennsylvania Black History Committee. He is a Penn State graduate and former member of the University Libraries Development Advisory Board.

A reception and book signing will immediately follow in the Charles W. Mann Jr. Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library. Copies of African Americans in Pennsylvania will be available for purchase at the event.
