Queer Norms

University Park, PA -- On Thursday, April 18, 4:00–6:00 p.m., Michael Warner, professor of English, Rutgers University–New Brunswick, will give a lecture titled "Queer Norms," in the Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library, followed by a reception in the Mann Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library.

Warner is a specialist in queer literary theory and in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century American literature. He is the author, most recently, of The Trouble with Normal: Sex, Politics, and the Ethics of Queer Life. In addition, he has edited Fear of a Queer Planet: Queer Politics and Social Theory and has written numerous articles on the relationships between literature, gender, and sexuality.

This is the last presentation in the "Millennium Approached: Queer Literary Studies in the 21st Century: A Lecture Discussion Series," organized by Penn State's Department of English. Warner's presentation is rescheduled from its original date of September 11, when it was to be the inaugural talk of the series.

Warner's presentation is part of the Social Sciences Library's First Friday series, intended to bring together researchers and others interested in social sciences research. For more information on both series, visit http://english.la.psu.edu and check under "Projects and Events."

The lectures are free and open to the public. For more information, about the Millennium series call 814-865-4383; about the First Friday series, call 814-865-4861.
