Upcoming Lecture on Using Technology to Create Maps of Early 1800s Trade Routes

University Park, PA -- The Penn State Center for the History of the Book and the Pennsylvania Center for the Book are sponsoring the lecture "How to Map a Book: William Anderson's London Commercial Dictionary and Sea-Port Gazetter (1826)" on Monday, March 25, 2002, at 4:00 p.m. in the Charles W. Mann Jr. Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library.

Join Deryck W. Holdsworth and Hank Rademacher, Penn State Department of Geography, as they discuss how, using today's computer technology, a book historian can create maps, based on information in Anderson's book, revealing the intricate trade routes of the early 1800s. The London Commercial Dictionary and Sea-Port Gazetter, first published in 1819 and later as a revised edition in 1826, contains information essential to British ship owners and sea captains of that time period.

Lecture is free and open to the public. No registration required. For more information, contact James L. W. West III at jlw14@psu.edu or 814-863-7551.
