Hands-on Seminars on Investments, Careers, and Patents and Trademarks
University Park, PA -- The University Libraries' Schreyer Business Library is offering three
hands-on seminars: "Investments," Wednesday, February 13; "Career Information," Tuesday, February 19;
and "Searching for Patents and Trademarks," Monday, March 25. Open to all students, faculty, staff, and the public, classes are
being held from 4:005:30 p.m. in 302 Paterno Library.
The "Investments" seminar will cover investment resources available in the Business Library as well as on the Web. Attendees will learn
the basics of the securities markets and how to conduct research on stocks, mutual funds, and other equities.
The "Career Information" seminar focuses on exploring careers, researching companies and industries, finding job openings, developing
resumes and cover letters, and preparing for job interviews. Supplementing this class, a "Career Corner" has been established in the Business
Library containing books, videos, and CD-ROMs on career information.
The "Searching for Patents and Trademarks" seminar will highlight the Libraries' role as a U.S. Patent and Trademark Depository Library.
It will teach how to utilize resources in the Business Library and on the Web to research patents and trademarks, including using the
CASSIS (Classification and Search Support Information System) Workstationa CD-ROM-based system containing databases for patent and trademark
searching.
These classes are part of the Subject Seminars series, organized by Libraries' Instructional Programs to teach how to use various databases and
