Seminar on Use and History of U.S. Census

University Park, PA -- The University Libraries is offering the seminar "Census: Past and Present" on Thursday, July 24, from 10:00–11:30 a.m., in 302 Paterno Library.

The United States Census contains a myriad of social, economic, and historical information that is often overlooked in research. Presented by Libraries staff and faculty Amy Deuink, Ann Thompson, and Stephen Woods, the seminar will provide users with information skills necessary to finding personal information in the (1920) individual census files for Pennsylvania as well as skills in finding relevant statistical information from the Decennial and Economic Censuses.

Open to the public, this free seminar is intended to go beyond genealogical research by demonstrating the relationship between statistical information gleaned from the Decennial and Economic Censuses and placing it within the context of personal information taken from the individual census files.

The Subject Seminars series, organized by the Libraries' Instructional Programs Department, provides instruction on various databases and subject-specific reference materials. For more information, contact Instructional Programs at jhb19@psulias.psu.edu or 814-865-9257.
