Director of PaLA to Discuss Library Challenges for 2004

University Park, PA -- As 2004 approaches, Libraries face a variety of challenges, including restored state funding, enhanced marketing of library services, copyright, Internet filtering, and new service requirements for a digital world. On December 15, at 11:00 a.m., in Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library, Glenn R. Miller, executive director of the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA), will lead a discussion of these issues, with a focus on how Pennsylvania Libraries can best respond and find the most effective ways to serve all library patrons.

In the eight years that Miller has been executive director of PaLA, he has increased Pennsylvania's commitment to libraries. During his tenure, membership in PaLA has grown to 1,850 members, who represent public, academic, and special libraries throughout Pennsylvania.

Prior to Miller's appointment to PaLA, he spent more than two decades working in government and politics, and owned and operated a writing, public relations, and association management business.

The event is sponsored by the University Libraries Colloquia Committee, which, under the direction of Rosann Bazirjian, brings current issues and discussions relating to libraries to the attention of Libraries faculty and staff.
