Terrell Jones to talk on diversity and student-centeredness

University Park, PA— Vice Provost for Educational Equity at Penn State, Terrell Jones, will present "Diversity and Student Centeredness: A Cross Cultural Look at Today's College Students and the Implications for Diversity Pedagogies" on Tuesday March 4, at 10 a.m. in Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library. The one-hour talk is open to the University community and the public, and will be broadcast on MediaSite Live (http://live.libraries.psu.edu).

The session will focus on variables that make for effective communication with people from different generations, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and race, ethnicity, and gender identities. "Getting your message across and being understood is a function of your ability to understand and communicate your message. You are involved in a cross-cultural communication anytime you communicate with anyone outside of your immediate family," Jones says.

Jones is responsible for leading the implementation of Penn State's strategic plan that embraces and supports diversity. He is a highly requested speaker on diversity issues and is known in higher education for his unique agenda and knack for teaching people how to appreciate diversity. He has authored numerous publications on the subject of cultural diversity.
