Exhibit pins down 100 years of wrestling at Penn State

University Park, PA— The wrestling program at Penn State has a long and glory filled tradition with many team and individual champions. The Penn State University Archives is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the program with a photo exhibit, "One hundred years of wrestling at Penn State," in Robb Hall at the Hintz Alumni Center, on display through April 25, 2008.

The exhibit chronicles the history of the wrestling program through team, individuals and action photos. The exhibit highlights several All-Americans, including JohnnyRich Lorenzo receiving award 1968 Johnston, Andy Matter, Jim Martin, and Kerry McCoy and various championship teams. Also featured are Coach Bill Koll and future coaches John Fritz, Rich Lorenzo, and Troy Sunderland during their wrestling days. The exhibit was curated by Sports Archives Assistant Paul Karwacki.

The exhibit is free to the public and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more information about the exhibit, contact Paul Dzyak, sports archivist, 814-865-7931.

Pictured here: Rich Lorenzo receiving the Outstanding Wrestler Award in the 1968 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Tournament. Presenting the award is former Penn State great, Johnny Johnston. Lorenzo went on to coach the Lions to 11 straight Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) titles, two National Dual Team titles, and was named EWL Coach of the Year six times, and National Wrestling Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1981 and 1992.
