Newspaper Indexes

The following online archive searches will allow the user to conduct a search through the historical archives for an article and, in many cases, an obituary. Charges may apply if the user chooses to view the full text :

Hints on Finding Newspaper Content

Researchers with a Penn State Access Account can search and retrieve articles from databases to which the Libraries subscribe at no charge.

The online tool, NewsCAT, shows which database has the content for the newspaper you need. It provides information on the years of coverage and content level (full or selective) for each newspaper.

For information on content that is missing from online newspapers, such as graphics and photographs, see How do I Find Online Text for a Specific Newspaper.

Use Micro-Indices to determine if the News & Microforms Library owns a print index to a newspaper not included in the list above.
Hint: Check box E - "Newspapers" to limit your search to Newspaper indexes.
