News Programming Schedule
Our scheduling goal is to provide as much access to as many different news programs from as many different countries as possible. CCTV-4 (China), Al-Jazeera, Deutsche Welle, SCOLA and CNN Espanol are some of the international channels we receive. U.S. cable channels include CNN, CNN Headline News, CNBC, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel.
One of the three 50" plasma screen televisions will always show international programming, with the sound on. The other two televisions will have the sound muted and closed-captioning on. Radio receivers on the close-captioned televisions offer viewers the option to listen to the broadcasts through their radio and headphones.
View a typical news program schedule (pdf 256KB). Note that the schedule is subject to change due to frequent changes in channel programming.
Equipment and Furnishings
The Television Viewing Area is designated within the News & Microforms Library by the use of furniture placement. Lighting and ceiling speakers were placed to help "frame out" the area. Only viewers seated in this area will hear the television. Other patrons in the library will not be able to hear any sound at all.
The Television Viewing Area includes three wall-mounted 50" plasma screen televisions and four directional ceiling speakers and sound panels. There are also ten lounge armchairs to allow for comfortable viewing and six side tables. Recessed down lights provide appropriate lighting in the television viewing area. Vertical blinds allow for optimum control of natural lighting.
