Questions about iPads? Email Dr. Dolores Fidishun, Head Librarian at dxf19@psu.edu

Your iPad is being signed out to you as a part of a class project. Remember:

  • You will need to set up you own Wireless 2.0 connection on your ipad. Go to http://m.psu.edu and click on the Wireless 2.0 app.
  • Make sure that you follow safe computing procedures. Penn State Information Technology Department has Safe Computing information for students at http://its.psu.edu/be-safe.html
  • Some apps are already loaded onto the iPad. You will not have access to University funds to purchase additional apps.
  • You may load apps (free or purchased with your funds through your own iTunes account), create materials and take video, pictures, etc. but WHEN YOU RETURN THE IPAD IT WILL BE WIPED CLEAN AND ALL OF YOUR MATERIAL WILL BE GONE. You can sync your ipad with your own iTunes account and may be able to use apps you acquired on other devices but we cannot promise that it will be possible. BEFORE YOU RETURN YOUR IPAD TRANSFER ANY PICTURES, VIDEO, ETC. TO YOUR OWN COMPUTER OR OTHER DEVICE.
  • You can load books, etc. into the Kindle app but THEY WILL BE WIPED OFF THE DEVICE WHEN IT IS RETURNED. (If you have a Kindle, iPhone or other device that allows Kindle you will still be able to add them to that.) There are a number of free books in the Kindle store at Amazon.com. Just search "free kindle books" in the Kindle Store.
  • Free books can also be found at Project Gutenberg at http://www.gutenberg.org/. These and other pdfs can be read and stored on the iBooks app.
  • You can set up your email account at on the iPad. If you have a Gmail account this is very easy to do through the iPad email function. You can check any version of webmail using Safari. If you have questions about this contact Dr. Dolores Fidishun.
  • Safari does not work well with ANGEL so do not expect to be able to upload materials into ANGEL or to access ANGEL pages through the iPad.
  • DO NOT lend your iPad to a friend! You are responsible for it while it is signed out to you!
  • Remember DO NOT return your iPad in the book drop!

You must return your iPad on time or you will be charged a fine. If you lose of damage your iPad you will be charged a replacement fee.
