Associate Dean for Research and Scholarly Communications

Mike Furlough

Mike Furlough is the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarly Communications.

Research and Scholarly Communications leads the Libraries’ content stewardship activities to support the life cycle of scholarly production, including curation, publication, preservation, copyright policy, grants administration, and outreach to researchers.  It includes

·   Eberly Family Special Collections Library

·   Digitization and Preservation

·   Scholarly Communications Services

·   Digital Curation Services

·   Office of Digital Scholarly Publishing, a partnership with the Penn State Press

Our division links emergent and traditional activities to incubate novel library services and enrich researchers’ abilities to create new knowledge.  Major initiatives include the development of programs to improve access to and innovative use of rare materials and special collections, support research data curation, e-records management, promote campus publishing initiatives, and the development of a “Research Commons” to facilitate collaboration among researchers, librarians and technologists.

We work in concert with all of our colleagues in the University Libraries and in close partnership with others, including Digital Library Technologies, Information Technology Services, the Penn State Press, the George and Ann Richards Era Civil War Center, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School, and the Institute for CyberScience.
