Renovation of ground floor of West Pattee and expansion of MacKinnon's Café will be a partnership of Penn State Retail Food Operations and the Libraries.
Additional expertise will be hired by the Libraries in areas of media and instruction. Information Technology Services and the Libraries will develop hybrid staff positions designed to work in technology and information rich service environments.
Establishment of new public spaces such as multimedia and podcast production centers, group study rooms; consultation/tutoring rooms and collaborative work areas, plus public service points. Information Technology Services will cover technology costs from existing and reallocated funds; the Libraries will cover other costs from private giving and strategic investment funds. Expertise in areas such as multimedia, documentation, and technical assistance will be hired.
Year Two: (2009/2010, Completed)
Repurposing and renovation of first floor of Pattee Library into space appropriate for the Knowledge Commons with funding from the Libraries (private giving and strategic investments funds). Hiring of a manager and technical support specialists.
