Library Rules

The Robert E. Eiche Library abides by Federal laws, the statutes of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, local ordinances, the University Code of Conduct, and other University and College policies that guide behavior on the campuses including the Academic Integrity Policy. Presented here are particular provisions for behavior within the library. Violations of this code may result in the loss of library privileges or further disciplinary actions from the College.

  1. Food, Beverages and Tobacco
    Food is not permitted in the library. Beverages are permitted in spill-proof drinking containers only. Library users should dispose of all food and non-spillproof drinking containers in the appropriate receptacles or recycling bins before entering the library. Tobacco use of any kind is prohibited in the library.
  2. Disruptive Behavior
    Disruptive behavior of any kind, including excessive noise, harassing library users, or harassing library staff is prohibited.
  3. Defacing Library Materials, Equipment, Furniture, and Facilities
    Cutting, tearing, or defacing materials such as books, periodicals, pamphlets, microforms, compact disks, videos, or tampering with computers, software, software configurations, equipment, furniture, and facilities is prohibited.
  4. Denying Access to Library Resources
    Preventing or postponing timely access to library resources through theft or deliberate misplacement of materials or other acts is prohibited.
  5. Copyright and Licensed Databases
    The responsibility for the appropriate use of copyrighted and licensed material lies with the user. The misuse of or unauthorized use of copyrighted or licensed information may lead to criminal prosecution or result in a loss of library and computing privileges or other disciplinary action.
  6. Courtesy and Responsibility
    The University Libraries are unable to guarantee the privacy and/or confidentiality of persons using the Internet. Nor is it possible to prevent other library users from observing online information or images they may find inappropriate. All persons using online and Internet resources are expected to show common courtesy and respect for both the privacy and sensibilities of others.
  7. Bicycles, Scooters, Roller Skates, Roller Blades, and Skateboards
    The use of bicycles, scooters, roller skates, roller blades, and skateboards in the library is prohibited. Bicycles may not be parked in buildings.
  8. Animals
    No animals, except those used to assist people with disabilities, are allowed in the library.
  9. Photographs, Films, and Videos
    To ensure that the privacy rights of library users are respected and to avoid disruptions of normal business operations, the library reserves the right to limit the use of photographic or video graphic equipment within the facilities.
  10. Soliciting
    Soliciting for donations or signatures on petitions is not allowed.



Computer Access

There are University Libraries computers available in the library with Internet access and Microsoft Office software for Penn State faculty, staff and student use only. You must have an Access ID and password to use these computers. A limited number of computers are available for the general public to access Library and Penn State-related web sites only. All computer services stop 15 minutes before closing.

Photocopiers

The library has 2 photocopiers available for faculty, student and public use, one copier on each floor. The cost is 10 cents per page and the photocopiers will accept coins and Lioncash. A coin machine is available on the second floor to make change, but will accept crisp, dollar bills only.

Audio-Visual Equipment

All audio-visual equipment, including microfilm/fiche viewers are located on the first floor of the Library. These items are for use in the Library only. Calculators are available at the second floor Circulation Desk and must be checked out with a Penn State ID.
