We began the project with a list of 221 journals in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning. Contact was attempted with 195 of these publications as shown in Figure 1.
Of the other 26, 24 were found to be ceased titles and 2 were associated with other journals whose editors responded for both of their publications.
We sent questionnaires to the editorial staff of these journals by email from February through April 2011. After the first contact, we received response from 58 journals. We contacted those journals that had not responded a second time from June through August 2011. We received an additional 24 responses, bringing our total response to 86. This information is shown in Figure 2.
