E-Books

There are three online encyclopedias that are of particular interest to students in Rome.
Oxford Art Online
-- Oxford Art Online provides web access to the entire text of The Dictionary of Art (1996) and The Oxford Companion to Western Art (2001). Covers all cultures from prehistory to the 1990s. Over 1,500 thumbnail art images and line drawings are displayed in the text of 45,000 articles. Contains links to searchable image databases and over 40,000 art images on museum and gallery web sites around the world. Updated continuously.
Gale Virtual Reference Library
-- Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) contains searchable full-text of several encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources in many different subject fields. One title of particular interest to students in Rome is:

Oxford Reference Online
-- Brings together over 100 dictionary, encyclopedia, language, and subject reference works published by Oxford University Press in a single cross-searchable resource. This contains several titles of interest to students in Rome including: Oxford Companion to Classical Civilization, Oxford Dictionary of the Saints, Oxford Companion to Western Art, Pocket Oxford Latin Dictionary, etc.
E-Journal Title Search
-- Penn State also provides electronic access to many journals. To see if a particular journal title is provided electronically, use the E-Journal Title Search.
NewsCAT
The University Libraries provide access to many newspaper titles in print, electronic, and microfilm formats. To find online newspapers, use NewsCAT and select Online from the Format drop down box.

Whenever you find a citation in a database such as Avery and you see the Get it!button, click it to find out if full text is available for that citation.
Full Text - other databases such as ProQuest will tag citations with a Full Text button when full text is available.
