For help with the Italian Language, please check out our Italian Language page.

General Information

TuttoCittà
-- An Italian equivalent of MapQuest: the “Mappa” section will locate any address for you by filling in the city name (Italian spelling, of course, so it’s “Roma,” “Firenze” and “Milano”), the street name (“indirizzo”) and building number. Once the map comes up, you can zoom in and out. The “Percorso” function will estimate your travel time from one address to another, either by car or on foot (“pedonale”).

The Universal Currency Converter
-- An interactive currency exchange site using up-to-the-minute exchange rates for a number of global currencies.

The American
-- The American is an independent general interest monthly magazine produced in Rome. Their website is also a good source for happenings and events in and around Rome.

craigslist: rome
-- mr. newmark's lower case classified empire has reached rome, easily accessible in both english and italiano. also available in numerous other italian and european flavors.

Rome Buddy
-- The Rome Buddy site offers advice (some rather jaded and sarcastic) about an enormous number of topics relevant to life in Rome for English speakers. It includes lists of English language cinemas in Rome, as well as libraries in Rome with English holdings.

RomeGuide
-- Your "full pocket web guide to Rome" maintains guides and listings for restaurants, bars, concerts, shopping and much more...

Wanted in Rome
-- Sort of an online English-language newspaper with ads and announcements. Gives information about exhibits, lectures, etc. both in Rome and elsewhere in Italy (i.e., Venice Biennale). WATCH OUT: the numeric dates given are usually in European order, so 11/10/08 means OCTOBER 11, NOT November 10.

Italian Museum Information

Museionline
-- Good News: This site provides information about museum hours, entrance fees, and special exhibits for museums throughout Italy. Choose the region you need on the map, then the city of interest.
-- Bad News:  It appears that they no longer provide an English-language mirror site. Feel free to use the "translate a web page" feature on Babelfish to muddle through. WATCH OUT: the numeric dates given are in European order, so 11/10/08 means OCTOBER 11, NOT November 10.

RomeGuide
Your "full pocket web guide to Rome" maintains guides and listings for monuments and museums, art exhibitions, concerts and much more...but not as extensive as Museionline.

Other US College Programs in Rome

This is sort of “cheating,” but these three sites run by other architecture programs consolidate a great deal of useful information on everything from favorite art supply stores, photography services and computer repair to cheap restaurants and English-language cinemas:

American University of Rome
-- Founded in 1969, The American University of Rome is the oldest degree-granting American university in Rome. Maintains a nice "Life in Rome" page.

Iowa State University
-- Besides the good preparatory information, check the "Services in Rome" link for their own lists of accumulated sources for products and services.

University of Washington
-- The University of Washington program site has another extensive list of Rome links.
